Layered Surface Design
Two surface variations are layered on top of each other: a detail layer creating the illusional appearance of texture, and a slowly-varying surface of multiple planes introducing subtle brightness differences.
3D Depth Illusion
The slight distinctness in brightness across the multiple planes leads to the illusion of being inside a 3D structure, making the cube appear to float above the surface.
Dynamic Light Animation
Upon slight movement of the light source the cube shape seems to float higher or lower. This dynamic effect can be accomplished by four or more LED light sources, slowly turning on and off in sequence.
